About Leonard Z

My name is Leonard Zapf and I am a Brass Instrument Repair Specialist for Music & 

Arts in Horsham, PA. I am very eager to serve the Tri-state area community and look 

forward to providing repair & maintenance services for your instruments and students.

Background:

Leonard has been specializing in brass instrument repair for forty years. Let me tell you how it 

all started. His great-uncle started a music store in Bayreuth Germany in 1901. He believed that 

the draw of American prosperity led him and his sons to open Zapf’s Music Store in 

Philadelphia in 1928. As it happened, his father Leonard Zapf was asked to help out with the store, 

so in 1938 at age 15 he came from Germany to help out with the store, repairing instruments.

With his father’s tutelage, he also started to work full-time at Zapf‘s music store in repairs in 

1979, after 10 years of trumpet lessons with Sigmund Hering. He had been working at Zapf‘s 

until they sold the business to Music & Arts in 2000. He continues working with Music and Arts 

at the Horsham repair shop at this present time, practicing his craft. He has also attended many 

NAPBIRT conferences to hone his skills
