Get to know Maylee Speakman

Hello! My name is Maylee Speakman and I am a graduate of Western Carolina University with a Bachelors degree in Music Industry. I primarily play flute and piccolo, with a little over 10 years of experience.

During my time at WCU I marched with the “Pride of the Mountains” Marching band, where I was their Visual Caption Coordinator for 2 years. I have performed at BOA Grand Nationals and marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In addition to my marching career, I was a member of numerous concert and chamber ensembles, including the WCU Wind Ensemble. Currently I play with the Asheville Flute Choir, a group lead by Kate Steinbeck, creative director of the award winning chamber music repertory company Pan Harmonia.

In my free time, I dabble in instrument repair and spend my summers teaching marching band techniques to local high schools.
