About Alissa Castro
I recieved an Associate of Arts in Percussion and Voice from Middle Georgia College, a Bachelor of Music Education from Columbus State University, and my Masters of Music Performance in Percussion from the University of South Carolina. I have performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles including the Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra, Three Rivers Community Band, the Florence Symphony Orchestra, and I currently play with the Symphony Orchestra of Augusta.
I began by teaching elementary school General Music in 2012 and held the position of Assistant Band Director for the Jeff Davis County middle and high school bands for the next several years. Most recently, I am a percussion instructor for Swansea High School and a percussion instructor and clinician at various other high schools for both marching and symphonic bands.
As a private instructor, I believe I have an opportunity to give my students an individualized education. I believe that everyone is innately musical and can improve upon their abilities. It is my job to meet my students, get to know them as musicians, recognize their potential, and help them become their best. As an educator I believe it is important in any teaching situation to be flexible, organized, lead by example, and enjoy the process! It takes cooperation, curiosity, and hard work on the part of both the teacher and student. I want to help my students become well-rounded and diverse musicians but most of all reach their full potential!
