About Allan Young

My dad taught me the rudiments of classical music and then later on, he turned me on to jazz guitar greats such as Django Reinhardt, John McLaughlin, Wes Montgomery, and Joe Pass. As I got a little older, I got turned on to punk and metal—despite my parents best efforts to steer me away from it. I still think that when it comes to songwriting, the Beatles set the bar and are the go-to for any young student who hasn't been exposed to much popular music.

I grew up playing a lot of big band jazz in school and as I got a little older, I played classic rock with people almost twice my age (at the time)—they had to drive me to and from rehearsals.

For a long time I lead a double life. On one hand, I was in Starfire—a high–society band playing old school R&B and jazz standards throughout the Washington D.C area. On the other, I was in Gorman Prophecy, which was once declared Baltimore's best metal band by (then) 98 rock radio personality Kirk McEwen. We toured up and down the east coast and were briefly signed to Screaming Ferret Wreckords.
