Around the time I entered high school my uncle got married. This made way for some new family members, one of whom handed me down his old bass guitar, and from there I never stopped. I continued playing trombone in my schools bands, but somewhat shifted my focus to the bass guitar since I realized I could choose the music I got to play with my friends, which eventually led me to the world of improvisation, a musical freedom I continue to enjoy.
Though I didn’t study music formally at SUNY Oneonta, I still took classes on theory, jazz, and musicianship where I could. I made a lot of friends who were in fact studying music, whether it was in the industry or performance aspect. I got to live with some of my best friends, and eventually start the band that I still play in to this day, Baked Potatoes. We’ve been together for almost 4 years, touring the northeast and east coast, and put out a full-length album this past April on which I played the bass guitar, and a little trombone.
Being that I was handed down a Fender Jazz Bass, it became my every day axe. I’ve tried other makes and models and nothing feels quite like one to me. The favorites of my gear include a Fender American Select Jazz Bass, Fender Standard Jazz Bass, and the extremely versatile Fender Deluxe Precision Bass Special. Some of my pedals include the MXR Bass Compressor, EHX Bassballs Envelope Filter, and the TC Electronic Flashback Delay and Looper.
