About Barbara

Despite being the horn teacher at Worthington, I always wanted to play flute.  Unfortunately, the band director at my middle school said Flutes were “a dime a dozen” and that if I wanted to play in the band I had to play the French Horn.  I agreed, not knowing what I was getting myself into, but I fell in love at the first note.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance, focusing on French Horn, from Capital University and my Master’s Degree, also in Horn Performance, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.  I have played French Horn professionally ever since, starting as the Principal Horn in the Orchestra Sinfonica Brazileira in Rio de Janeiro for five years.  Since returning to the states I have freelanced with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the LFO, the Charleston (West Virginia) Symphony, the Richmond (Indiana) Symphony, the Welsh Hills (Licking County) Symphony, the Land of Legend Philharmonic, the Mansfield & Springfield Symphonies, and the Capital University Woodwind and Brass Quintets.  Currently I perform with the Vintage Brass Quintet and Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra.

In addition to performing I love teaching private lessons, and I hope to can inspire the next generation to love the horn as much as I do.
