Bo Park is excited to join the Music and Arts Lesson Team as the Brass Instructor for the South Paramus Location.
Mr. Park’s holds certifications and degrees from esteemed programs and universities in the United States. He holds the Trombone Performance Certificate from the The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Program, and holds the Bachelors of Arts (Music Education) degree from the Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University). Mr. Park also holds the Standard K-12 Teacher of Music License in the State of New Jersey.
During his time at Juilliard Pre-College, Mr. Park studied trombone under James E. Markey (New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra) and Weston Sprott (Metropolitan Opera), Chamber Music with Kevin Cobb (American Brass Quintet), and conducting with Julien Benichou (Orchestral conducting). During college, he studied Trombone with Michael Powell (American Brass Quintet) and instrumental conducting with Darryl J. Bott (Mason Gross School of the Arts). For a short duration, Mr. Park also studied Orchestral Conducting with David Gilbert, the resident conductor of Manhattan School of Music. During his Marching Band and Drum Corps journey, he has worked under and with world-class, well-known educators of the activity, including Paul Cullen (Reading Buccaneers, Cadets, Fusion Core, Cadets2), John Herbert Molloy (Bushwackers, Cadets, Cadets 2, Fusion Core, Santa Clara Vanguard, Oregon Crusaders), and Mike Schmitt (Hawthorne Caballeros, Fusion Core).
As a player, Mr. Park was fortunate to be a part of many high-regarded musical ensembles. Mr. Park was part of the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony Orchestra, and their top-level Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, which often performs at Lincoln Center. During his time at Rutgers University, he served as 1st chair (5 semesters) for the Rutgers Symphony Band, played for the Rutgers University Sinfonia Orchestra, and other musical groups in the NJ area. Mr. Park also had the privilege of performing for Nitzan Haroz (Philadelphia Orchesta) in the Rutgers Trombone Master Classes. He was part of The Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013 and 2014, and served as the Baritone Section Leader and Lead Soloist during the 2014 year. Mr. Park also filled a late-season vacancy during his first year at Fusion “Core” Drum and Bugle Corps during 2015.
As a teacher, Mr. Park previously held the Director of Music position at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, where he was tasked of creating and implementing the music curriculum for 6th~8th grade Music Appreciation, High School Guitar, and High School Chorus classes. He was also tasked with starting a Middle School Band Program, which would develop into a feeder program for the High School. Mr. Park also served as the K-8 General Music and Chorus Teacher for Elizabeth Public Schools. Bo Park is also entering his 4th year as part of Fusion “Core” Drum and Bugle Corps Brass Education Team (2015/2016 – Baritone / Euphonium Music, 2017 – Trumpet Music), which placed Top 5 in Drum Corps Associate World Championships last year.
Currently, Mr. Park is the Music Teacher for Irvington High School. His duties include being the Assistant Band Director, Piano Teacher, and General music teacher. He also owns and operates Sae Shim Kumdo Academy, a sword martial arts school in Norwood, New Jersey and maintains an active private lesson studio in the NJ area. Mr. Park is also a highly in-demand Marching Arts and Brass Clinician, and has guest-taught marching bands in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York Areas.
