Drum Set, Percussion
Ever since I was young, I was fascinated by the drum set and began playing percussion in 6th grade. I’ve played for 14 years and have experience in rock, punk, gospel and jazz drumming. I recently had the opportunity to play percussion with recording artist Carlos Whittaker at the historic Tally Ho Theater. I also got to play with my friend Josh Tigges for his EP release there. I also play acoustic and bass guitar.
I have 6 years teaching experience running an internship for college students and more recently substitute teaching for LCPS. I love combining my passion for teaching with my experience in music to help students achieve progress towards their goals.
I believe a good drummer has good rhythm, pocket (ability to play simply and lock in to a beat) and is musical. In light of these goals, students will build a strong foundation with rudiments and metronome training while building confidence on the drum kit. I also encourage students to play in as many musical situations as possible. At Music and Arts, we give students experience through open mic nights, ensembles, and getting together students of the same skill level to play together!
Drumming is a blend of physical and mental training, and lessons are designed to give students the cognitive as well as technical breakthroughs that allow them to progress in their drum skills!
