About Brian Schellberg
I have taught clarinet and saxophone for 15 years and have a Master's Degree from Sam Houston State University for Clarinet Performance.
The biggest goal I have for all of my students is to help them to become self-sufficient musicians. Rather than lecture to them, I like to get their perspective on how they are performing and what they see as their strengths and weaknesses, and how we can improve. Having the student tell me how they understand various concepts lets me know how they see things, and we can make adjustments from there. All lessons with me involve a warm-up (long-tones), scales and scale patterns, sight reading and etude studies. I am very adament about students having good basic playing concepts, and we will address them regularly. Becoming a good player on any instrument involves a lot of hard work, but I also hope that my students and I have a good time during our weekly lessons. I encourage parents or guardians to sit in on a lesson or two and see just what it is that we do.
