She was a CFCC student at that time. During that time she also provided music for Phi Theta Kappa ceremonies, an honors society of which she is a member.
In addition to being a member of Phi Theta Kappa, she received two student awards for Academic Achievement, the Ogden Baptist Church Music Scholarship and the Jack and Judy McGarry Scholarship. Carey has been employed as a Music Intern at Wrightsville Beach Methodist Church since 2015 where her responsibilities include leading the youth group Praise Band, serving as Children’s Choir assistant, Bell Choir Member, and fill-in sound technician. In her time at UNCW Carey has performed as a choir accompanist at MPA, performed as a soloist and accompanist in a pre-concert when Chamber Music Wilmington hosted ACRONYM, played solo pieces in a program held in partnership with the Cameron Art Museum, performed in UNCW’s annual piano day, and has participated in master classes with Evgeny Rivken and Mauricy Martin.
After graduating from UNCW in December 2018, she plans to continue teaching piano and working as a church musician and begin teaching elementary school music.
