About Me

Carol McDowell is in her 28th year of teaching music. She has taught elementary music and beginning band (K-8), elementary choir (grades 3-5) and undergraduate and graduate music-education courses.

 Carol is active in various professional music organizations. She was elected as the general music vice-president for the Missouri Music Educators Association (2014-2016), appointed to the American Orff-Schulwerk Association Editorial Board for The Orff Echo (2008-2016), and is also a member of the editorial board for the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education (2000-2018), serving as editor for the term 2004-2008.

She has presented workshops and research poster sessions for national and state music conventions and her research articles have been published in various music-education journals.

 Carol holds three levels of certification in both the Orff and Kodaly teaching methods, and also has training in Dalcroze Eurthymics, Discipline-Based Music Education, and using jazz in the general-music classroom. She has completed Lynn Kleiner’s Music Rhapsody and John Feierabend’s First Steps in Music early-childhood music training courses, and is a licensed Kindermusik educator. McDowell holds degrees from   Southeast Missouri State University (B.M.E. and B.M.) and Florida State University (M.M.E. and Ph.D.).
