Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid._Frank Zappa
Dad was a sax player/singer in some working bands around central NY in the 60s/70s/80s, so I grew up around it. There was almost always music in the house; the radio playing or Mom singing as she was going about the day. Any time I was in the car with Dad there was a healthy dose of Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Steely Dan, and The Doobie Brothers playing, among others. From time to time he would bring me to hang out at rehearsals and gigs, and I'd want nothing more than to some day be a part of it. My folks have pictures of me with drumsticks in my hands from well before I have any memories. Making music is simply all I've ever wanted to do.
Fast-forward 30+ years...okay, 35+ years...alright, FINE, 40+ years later! I've had the priviledge of living a life largely supported by music; as a player, as a teacher, and in instrument retail. Between concert/orchestral percussion, drum & bugle corps, and ALL styles of drum set playing I've performed and/or taught in over half of the 50 states, Canada, and even spent a week playing Dixieland music in the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal!
When I was 10 years old I could have only imagined that one day I'd play at a NASCAR event for an audience of over 300,000 people (plus a few million more tuning in on tv!), and that I'd have former students who have gone on to their own professional playing and teaching careers!
Now, it's my pleasure to use my experience, passion and knowledge to help others in their own musical pursuits!
At Music&Arts we pride ourselves on being more than just a music store. Our enormous retail offerings and our awesome lesson program are simply pieces of an overall vision we have of "making music makers". Music can transcend a lot of things that life brings along and a lot of differences between people, and it's our mission to do everything possible to support student musicians of ALL ages and experiences in their endeavors to bring music into our lives!
