About Chris Weiss
He has 27 years of live performance experience including opening for national recording artists Fear Factory and Obituary. He has played in numerous clubs, restaurants, wineries and sports stadiums around the Midwest and Southern U.S. including Blueberry Hill and The River City Rascals baseball stadium locally.
Chris also has 27 years of guitar, bass and ukulele teaching experience in all styles (and sub-genres) including Rock, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, Pop, R&B, Bluegrass, Flamenco and Classical. He has former students who have graduated with music degrees from various colleges, including Berklee and the Guitar Institute of Technology, who work as professional music performers and instructors, have earned record deals, and have been featured in the Rock Band Video Game by Harmonix. He is equally comfortable in a one-on-one or group setting and has put together many student bands as a rock band program leader. Chris also has experience teaching the new wave of YouTube musicians to make rap, hip-hop and club music with computers and digital audio workstations.
Chris believes that learning music should be FUN, bring happiness and highlight the musical interests of each individual student. While he is a firm believer in the fundamentals of sight reading, impeccable technique, ear training and the understanding of music theory, if the student is interested in a particular avenue of study then that is where he will focus. Once the passion and joy of playing is unlocked, he finds the rest just happens naturally. He has 27 years of experience with absolute beginners, high school band members, mid-level players, college graduates, professionals and hardcore players. He tailors and accommodates his approach to each student’s needs, goals, level of drive and understanding. Chris has experience with blind students and special needs students as well and can always adjust accordingly. He loves to stress individuality and creativity in all areas of music education including: Sight Reading; Ear Training; Music Theory; Song Writing; Improvisation; Recording; Technique; and Performance in individual and Group settings. He believes music is amazing and sharing it is amazing too!
