      Performance Experience: Performed with Opera Columbus, Opera Project Columbus, Saint Joseph Cathedral, Chicago Symphony Chorus, Lincoln Opera of Chicago, Barrington Opera Guild American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
      Teaching Experience: Taught with Music and Arts since 2009. Taught with Kenyon College since 2002. Taught privately since 1982.
      Teaching Philosophy: I engage with each student as a unique musical talent, taking into consideration their goals and aspirations. Together we will discover his or her unique voice and ability and make a plan for excellence.

      Get to know Cynthia Mahaney

      Dr. Cynthia Mahaney has been an instructor of music at Music & Arts since 2009. She teaches voice, violin, viola and piano. Her music degrees are Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Ohio University, Master of Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from The Ohio State University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance also from OSU. A dramatic soprano, Mahaney’s performances include operatic roles Cio Cio San (Madama Butterfly), a Valkyrie (Die Walkürie), High Priestess (Aïda)First Lady (The Magic Flute), Gertude (Hansel and Gretel), and Violetta (La Traviata)Solos with orchestra include Pergolesi’s Stabat MaterCarmina Burana, and Mozart’s Requiem.  Mahaney was a performer in the Music For Theatre: Chicago’s online presentation of Junteenth: A Cel-Liberation on June 19, 2020. Mahaney has served as a vocal adjudicator in numerous capacities including with The Central Ohio Singing Competition and Women in Music-Columbus. Recordings featuring Mahaney include Calidente, music performed by flutist Rodolfo Vazquez, and a recording of original music by female composer Jerry Casey,Yet I Will Rejoice. As a violinist and violist, Mahaney has performed as a member in string quartets and in numerous symphony orchestras. She is currently a member of the viola section of the Knox County Symphony Orchestra in Ohio. In addition to teaching for Music & Arts, Mahaney also teaches voice at Kenyon College.
