About Dakota

Dakota is an active freelance horn artist on the East Coast, where he divides his time between teaching and performing with a multitude of ensembles. He has played with the Virginia Symphony, Roanoke Symphony, New World Symphony, Miami City Ballet, South Florida Philharmonic, New River Valley Symphony, and the United States Navy Band Southwest. He is a faculty member of FredBrass, a brass-intensive summer festival originating from Fredericksburg, VA, and now growing across the country. As well as being a member of FredBrass, Dakota helped found Vice City Brass, a collective of brass and electronic musicians aiming to bridge the generation gap between the past, present, and future.
Dakota earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Music Performance from Virginia Tech, where he was a featured soloist with both the Virginia Tech Wind Ensemble and the nearby New River Valley Symphony. He then continued to the University of Miami where he earned his Masters of Music in Instrumental Performance.  His teachers have included Richard Todd, Wallace Easter, Rebecca Peppard, and Sgt. Eric High.
