In lessons, the primary focus will be on creating an independent and exceptional musician in each student. Students will work on skills that will allow them to take on any musical challenge and conquer it. Skills that will be developed will involve all of the senses. Aural skills will be taught they allow students to understand how to listen to music actively, to be able to understand what is happening in the music and to play a tune by ear. Visual senses will be employed to study the written notation of music and develop the abilities to understand written rhythm and pitch. The sense of touch and movement will be employed to understand how music affects us as a whole.

Lessons will also be a time to build the skills of musicians of all ages who wish to improve themselves. Fundamentals such tone and embouchure will be taught along with learning scales, arpeggios, chords, etudes and technical exercises. Time can also be spent preparing for auditions including talent competitions, county, region and all-state preparation and entrance auditions for college and other programs.
