During her career she has performed the roles of Aunt Julia in Ward’s Claudia Legere, 1st Lady in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Georgette in Puccini’s La Rondine & was cast as a Reporter in the World Premiere production of Stephen Schwartz’s Séance on a Wet Afternoon. Darla has also covered the roles of Hannah in Lehar’s Merry Widow and The Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozzsedi Figaro for Opera Santa Barbara.
Ms. Mattern Henderson has also been a featured Studio Artist with Opera Santa Barbara and was an Opera Santa Barbara Young Artist in 2009. She has also had the privilege to have been a Vocal Fellow at the prestigious Music Academy of the West Summer Program in 2009.
During her singing career she has won several awards. Most recently she was a Los Angeles District Metropolitan Opera National Council Finalist for Los Angeles. She was also a three-time recipient of the Sheila Allen Vocal Scholarship and received the Em Green Vocal Scholarship from the Young Musicians Foundation.
Darla has studied and coached with several teachers, most notably, Rita Shane, Warren Jones, Fred Carama and world-renowned Marilyn Horne.
