It's my privilege to bring the benefits of Music & Arts to some of the finest music programs in Texas, including Cypress-Fairbanks (Cy-Fair) ISD, Klein ISD, and Tomball ISD.
Like many the young students I meet each year, my musical life began in elementary school. After hearing the Northwood Jr. High band play "Chicago" tunes, I started collecting Chicago records (remember records?). I wanted to be one of those horn players! After a few trumpet lessons in 4th grade, I began band as a 6th grader on trombone. After Northwood JH, I was fortunate enough to attend Richardson High School when the great Howard Dunn was director of bands, and Joseph Frank Sr. was director of the symphony orchestra. Thanks to these two great teachers, I was able to perform in a 4A honor band concert, and with our orchestra at the Mid West Band and Orchestra Clinic.
I earned my BM in trombone performance from Indiana University. College highlignts included performing at the 1st annual IU Performance Showcase at Lincoln Center (NYC), featuring an orchestra performance at Avery Fisher Hall (home of the NY Philharmonic), and an opera production at the Metropolitan Opera. I was also invited to join "Quintessential Brass" (later "Top Brass"). Quintessential Brass won the Fischoff Chamber music competition, and placed 2nd in the Coleman National Chamber Music competition. After graduation, we participated in chamber music recitals, master classes, artist resedencies, and performances with symphony orchestras in 11 states from California to West Virginia.
I also served as principal trombonist of the East Texas Symphony, the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional (Dominican Republic), and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
After 10 years of free-lance and professional playing and teaching, I earned my MM in trombone performance from the Shepherd School of Music (Rice University). Since then, I've performed as a guest trombonist with most of the major ensembles in Houston, including the Houston Symphny, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Paragon Brass, and many others.
I've always enjoyed teaching, and as a private teacher, I always benefitted from the support of a local music retailer. I still play trombone regularly, and it's a joy to continue to serve music educators in my role with Music & Arts!
