Dave teaches all kinds of guitar and has over 30 years experience. From steel-string acoustic, to nylon-string classical guitar, and he offers a theoretical underpinning to his students to support the overall developing musician. The focus of his instructions rests on developing proper technique and facility. The "how" part of learning to play; learning the correct fret hand position, fret finger placement and the proper use of the pick of hand placement for finger style play. Dave believes that it is easier to learn to play correctly from the outset than it is to correct established bad habits, but they certainly can be corrected with the application of excercises geared toward particular problems. For students of all ages, Dave approaches from the standpoint of reading musical notes to enable you to converse with other musicians knowledgably and to understand the theory of the chords and the music they compose. He also incorporates TAB notation to introduce a useful shorthand to aid in the student's music education.
The "what" depends upon your tastes and interests. Once the basics have been mastered, those interests can be pursued as vigorously as the student desires. Everyone learns in different wasy and the approach will be tailored to the needs of the student that works for the chosen course of study and make sure that the student has fun doing so.
His students range in age from five to 75, and in ability ranging from beginner to advanced.
