About Dawn Schmid
Dawn Schmid has been involved in the arts all of her life and with over a decade of experience; she excels on and off the stage. Dawn paved the way for future students at McKendree University by creating the musical theater degree, a program that did not exist before she attended the university. In conjunction of creating the degree, she starred in the universities numerous productions including musicals, dramas, and comedies.
Complementing her extraordinary acting abilities is her prowess in vocal performance. As an alto singer, Dawn has studied with some of the best singers in the world including Grammy award winning operatic singer Christine Brewer in various styles including classical, cabaret, and musical theater. Her voice talents have earned her a residency with Stray Dog Theater in St. Louis with performances including Jesus Christ Superstar, Spring Awakening, and The Robber Bridegroom. She has also performed solo works in the metropolitan area including Let Them Eat Cake: A Debut Solo Cabaret.
Dawn’s teaching style is based on the skill level of her students. She has taught students with no experience in music up through helping students prepare for collegiate auditions. She focuses on finding ways to energize the student and keeping them passionate about music. Dawn is always eager to meet new students and enjoys getting the chance to help cultivate student’s talents for music.
