Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I have been playing woodwind instruments for over 50 years.
I pursued a performance degree at SUNY Purchase studying with the finest teachers in New York City including Leon Russianoff on clarinet and.Al Regni on saxophone and flute. Then I had the opportunity to study clarinet with Karl Leister, solo clarinetist with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert Von Karajan.
I’ve made it my life’s work over the last 40 years to transfer the knowledge passed on from these fine teachers to my private students as well as my own performing.I play and teach many styles of music including orchestral, chamber music, solo performance, concert band, marching band, big band jazz jazz combo, jazz rock, fusion and dixieland .I teach all levels of students from beginners to very advanced. Many of my students have achieved success in the All State Band,Orchestra and Jazz Band. One of my former students was the winner of the 2017 Emerging Artist Competition sponsored by the Vandoren Reed Co.
I also have years of experience in the music industry, including 8 years as the New England District Manager for the Selmer Co and 11 years as New Hampshire Educational Representative for Music and Arts Center. These experiences give me insight into how these instruments work as well as the styles and challenges of my students’ music teachers.
My teaching philosophy is as soon as possible to help the student produce a pleasing sound that’s in tune. The sound is the first thing the audience and performer hear and that creates a connection.
I also teach how to practice, especially rhythm. It helps create success which makes the music fun.I also play along with the students as much as possible with recorded accompaniments so everything we play feels like a performance.
I look forward to meeting and teaching your student.
