About Emily

Emily Weiser is currently finishing up her degree in Choral and General Music Education at the University of Maryland, where she will graduate in 2018. She has played piano for fourteen years and has studied with Larissa Dedova since 2014. She completed the Vocal Minor Series at the University of Maryland, in which she studied voice for two years with Lori Sen. When not playing classical piano, Emily musically directs and accompanies youth musical theater performances and sings in choir. She is a member of the University of Maryland Chamber Singers, a select ensemble that performs with renowned conductors such as Nathalie Stutzmann, Matthew Halls, and Marin Alsop, as well as with established ensembles such as the National Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She has taught private voice and piano lessons since 2015, and worked temporarily as a long-term substitute music teacher at Solomon Schechter Day School in Greater Harford, CT. She has worked at the University of Maryland Summer Youth Music Camp in the piano camp division for the past two summers. She is currently completing her student teaching in grades K-12, working in general elementary music classrooms as well as high school choir ensembles.

Emily believes that everyone is capable of success and that there is no one-size-fits-all method of learning to make music. Students learn best when they are challenged but also allowed some freedom to choose what music they study. The teacher should encourage the student to expand their skills while allowing the student to be in control of their own learning.
