      Teaching Philosophy: As a music educator, it is my goal to make the experience of music as enjoyable as possible to every student willing to learn. Music is one of humanity's universal arts. We are musical beings! I was taught that I could become whatever I chose and music became my life. While not every student will want to be a star musician, I will personally make sure that every student discovers the joy and fun that is to play music, whether by themselves or with a group.

      Get to know Francisco Retana

      Francisco has been playing saxophone for the last fifteen years. Inspired by his time at Central Union High School with The Great Spartan Band, Francisco made the decision to pursue a career in music education. Francisco earned his Associate of Arts in Music from Imperial Valley College in 2012 and his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from San Diego State in 2019. He then earned his Preliminary Teaching Credential from San Diego State - Imperial Valley in 2020 and is currently teaching as a band director at Holtville Middle School. Francisco's performance experience includes marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble, and theatre pit orchestra. Francisco currently teaches woodwinds such as saxophone, clarinet, and flute with Music & Arts.
