Fran Vielma, bornin Venezuela, is a critically acclaimedand award-winningmultipercussionist, composer, andeducator. Hisextensive knowledge ofrhythms fromthe Caribbean, Venezuela, Southamericaand beyondisintegratedwith his attraction toconcert music andthefreedom of jazz

Vielma was recently awarded theDC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellowshipand theJazz RoadTourGrantby South Arts Foundation. HisfirstalbumInesperado,waspart of a catalog for the label Cacao Music along with productions of internationalartists such as Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Jose Luis Quintana “Changuito,”andNegroni’s trio among others

He was recently guest-speaker for the Jazz Seminar of Peabody Institute–John HopkinsUniversity directed by Sean Jones.He has been anadjunct faculty of World Music atSalem State University-MA, andArtist in Residence atFlorida University,BaltimoreSchool of Arts,andMaryland Classic Youth Orchestra.He holds a M.M. from NewEngland Conservatory, and a B.M. from Berklee College of Music.Also studiedcomposition at the Arts University in VE
