About Grace Watson

Grace received her BM in Piano Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts where she studied under Joseph Kalichstein. Her graduate studies, also in Piano Performance, were done at Indiana University, Bloomington, where her most notable teacher was Stephen Bishop-Kovacevich.
Grace has been employed as Staff Accompanist and Adjunct Piano Faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. She has also worked as staff pianist with a Richmond ballet company until her employment was interrupted by marriage, children, and several relocations.
She has taught all ages and all skill levels for more than 25 years both in a school setting as well as privately. She teaches traditional classical piano and will include teaching technique, sight reading, aural skills, and a variety of repertoire in lessons. Whether your child would like to compete, prepare for piano exams, or play for fun, Grace will work hard to make lessons challenging yet fun. Even though her education focused on classical music, she enjoys teaching all styles of music and in fact encourages all of her students to play as many different styles as they can.
Grace also has experience preparing students for the ABRSM exams. Her students have passed the exams with both merit and distinction in piano and theory exams.

Grace looks forward to helping your child grow to love music and to be able to enjoy playing the piano for the rest of their lives.
