About Dr. Daisy Hsieh

Dr. Daisy Han-Ying Hsieh, originally from Taiwan, has enjoyed a rich and diverse career as an active soloist, musician and teacher throughout North America and Asia. Ms. Hsieh is a classically trained singer, and she is a recent graduate of the Catholic University of America, where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance. During her time there, she studied extensively with tenor Rick Christman and soprano Fabiana Bravo. In 2011 she received Graduate Performance Diploma at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in voice performance. Previously, she obtained Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree from Taipei National University of America in voice performance.

Her past operatic performances include Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief) and Morgana (Alcina). Ms. Hsieh’s spanning genres are from opera, art songs to contemporary style in multiple languages. Additionally, Ms. Hsieh is not only an enthusiastic musician but also a dedicated teacher with in-depth knowledge of music theory. Currently Ms. Hsieh’s students range from as young as 5-year-old to adults at all ability levels. With an interactive teaching style, she embraces different approaches to meet the individual needs of students’ various learning goals. Her teaching philosophy is that nothing is more important to make the student love music because it is a helpful way to unlock students’ full potential. Ms. Hsieh’s favorite thing about teaching young kids is their creative thoughts, natural instinct and beautiful innocence. She loves helping them accomplish something they didn't believe they could. Whether it's a huge milestone or a small goal, every step is an achievement. Besides, communication and trust between parents and teacher is a crucial part of teaching young students since she believes teaching is about building lasting relationship with each family. She also loves the journey to accompany teenager students to see them grow. They start to discover themselves to build their own taste and choose new songs for working on. It’s also exciting to know them better through their choices of the pieces. When Ms. Hsieh sees her students smile after they nail a part of their song or hit that money note, she knows she’s doing her job! The most fascinating aspect about teaching adults is their passion and philosophy to music. They are always eager to learn and interested to know the background of each composition in-depth. Ms. Hsieh really enjoys the learning journey with her every single student.
