"There is no T in Can!"
Jane developed the Piano Camp program in the 1980's for Alamance County 4-H Summer Fun. This is a musical discovery program for children ages 7-11 who have never studied piano, designed to develop aninterest in the study of music andd performance of piano. Parents will be able to decide whether a future for their child in piano warrants an investment in buying the instrument and continuance with regular private lessons. Classes are taken 3-4 days over a one week period suring the summer through Music & Arts.
"Piano Students Practicing Community Service" was an event first established in 2005 and raised more than $400 for vitcims of Hurricane Katrina. the program collected $800 in 2010 foto help victims of the earthquake in Haiti and in 2012 the program raised over 300$ to help fund the building of homes for children in Uganda. All donations were given to Habitat for Humanity and Habitat International.
Piano and violin recitals are usually presented in the fall and in the spring, with special music programs during Christmas and special occaisions at Music & Arts or the recital hall at Twin Lakes retirement community. Medal awards and trophies are sometimes presented for extra incentive.
Jane also teaches classes on music composition. Students who are interested in creating their own compositions are encouraged to study the basics of writing and developing their own creativity through improvisation and creative theory.
