      Education: AAS degree of commercial art and advertising design from Alamance Community College- BA in piano performance from Elon University with violin study, and pre-masters study in church music education. Certification of Kindermusik program at Guilford College and Greensboro College.
      Performance Experience: Performance experience through Elon University Community Orchestra, recitals , programs through community churches- travel with Christian music programs with The Spirit Sisters in NC,VA- piano, organ, violin playing for weddings , funerals throughout the years- parades, working with Alamance Children's Theatre ,Burlington Academy of Dance & Arts- concerts with the Burlington Carousel Festival, The Spirit Sisters- Recorded CD's "In God's Love" , In God's Spirit". With students in recitals.
      Teaching Experience: Teaching experience from 1973, through Jane McIver Music Studio in the home- C.B.Ellis Music Store- Bill Boyce Music Center- Burlington Academy of Dance & Arts- Eastlawn Baptist Church children's center- and at present with Music & Arts. Over 40 years experience in total.
      Teaching Philosophy: Promoting the musical theory knowledge for the student with instrument application during lessons with solos, duets, recitals, group training. To encourage regular practice, being prompt to lessons. Encouraging parents and family to set positive goals for their student and if musicians, bond together to inspire the student. I like to say, "There is no T in Can". Encourage Christian students to use their talents in their church whenever possible.

      Get to know Jane McIver

      Jane, or "Miss Jane" as she is known by her students, has a BA in Music Performance with a concentration in classical piano, organ, and harpsichord from Elon UniversityShe studied piano and harpsichord with Dr. WAlter Westafer; organ with Dr. Richard Apperson and Dr. Robert King;; violin with Dr. Malvin Artley Sr. She is a singer-songwriter whose performance experience includes being the pianist for "The Spirit Sisters" and "Sing 4 Jesus" Christian Music groups and a violinist with Elon University Community Orchestra. Presently, Jane is the church organist/pianist, choir director,and youth leader for Historic Providence Christian Church and musician with the Providence Trio. she has over thirty-five years teaching experience which includes a certification as a Kindermusik specialist and former pre-school music teacher for Burlington Academy of Dance and Arts.

      Jane developed the Piano Camp program in the 1980's for Alamance County 4-H Summer Fun. This is a musical discovery program for children ages 7-11 who have never studied piano, designed to develop aninterest in the study of music andd performance of piano. Parents will be able to decide whether a future for their child in piano warrants an investment in buying the instrument and continuance with regular private lessons. Classes are taken 3-4 days over a one week period suring the summer through Music & Arts.

      "Piano Students Practicing Community Service" was an event first established in 2005 and raised more than $400 for vitcims of Hurricane Katrina. the program collected $800 in 2010 foto help victims of the earthquake in Haiti and in 2012 the program raised over 300$ to help fund the building of homes for children in Uganda. All donations were given to Habitat for Humanity and Habitat International. 

      Piano and violin recitals are usually presented in the fall and in the spring, with special music programs during Christmas and special occaisions at Music & Arts or the recital hall at Twin Lakes retirement community. Medal awards and trophies are sometimes presented for extra incentive. 

      Jane also teaches classes on music composition. Students who are interested in creating their own compositions are encouraged to study the basics of writing and developing their own creativity through improvisation and creative theory.
