J.P. is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education at Azusa Pacific University, expected to graduate in May 2021. During his current attendance at Azusa Pacific University, J.P. has been able to create a network with many professors and peers not only at his own school, but also with the neighboring Citrus College. Through this connection, he has been able to play with professional musicians such as Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester, saxophonist and Latin Jazz group leader Justo Almario, and Grammy nominated composer Adam Schoenberg. This of course has required J.P. to become proficient on the flute and clarinet as well. He has also toured with both schools; with the APU Wind Ensemble to play as the honorary university concert ensemble for the 2018 California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC); with the Citrus College Blue Note Orchestra in 2018 to perform with Melissa Manchester in residence at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii; and with the APU Jazz Ensemble to compete with the top six national collegiate groups invited to the 2019 Next Generation Jazz Festival, held in Monterey, California. J.P. believes music is important is because it serves not only as a universally expressive outlet for all to enjoy the aesthetics of listening and creating it, but also as an advocate for the positive growth and development of the mind, body and spirit.
