About Jennifer

PLAYING EXPERIENCE

 

∙           Began piano at the age of 6 and percussion at the age of 14 attending The Manhattan School of

            Music Preparatory Division from 1979 to 1989

∙           Played with the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble as a percussionist

∙           Played with the Hunter Symphony, the Jazz Ensemble, the Riverside Orchestra, the Mannes

            Extension Division Orchestra, the Mannes Contemporary Ensemble, the Mannes Percussion

Ensemble and various performances throughout the New York Metropolitan area as a percussionist like the Y Community Orchestra on 92nd Street

∙           After graduation, played with the community orchestra in Dayton, Ohio from 1992 to 1997 and Symphonocity (formerly known as the Virginia Beach Symphony) from 1999 to 2001

∙           Performed solo piano recitals from 1988 to 1992 every year at different venues in the New York City Metropolitan area and internationally in Merida, Yucatan

 

MUSIC AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS AND FESTIVALS 

 

In 1986, won an award at the national level in the AMSA Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

In 1988, winner in the Queens Teen Talent Competition sponsored by the Queens Council of the Arts.

 

In 1988, received the Dianna Flagello Scholarship Award for Excellence in Percussion at the Manhattan School of Music Prep Division.

 

In 1990, as a member of the International Artists Alliance and the Albeniz Institute of Music, received its highest honor for a young pianist, the Angela Quintana Award.

 

In 1992, was awarded The Berdeshevsky Scholarship Fund Grant for her musical studies at Hunter College in New York City where she had been a scholarship student in the Music Department since 1989.

 

Attended the Greensboro Eastern Music Festival as an orchestral Percussionist in 1993.

 

Attended the Leigh Howard Stevens Marimba Seminar Summer of 1991 to study under Leigh Howard Stevens and Gordon Stout.

 

Studied Piano with Ubaldo Diaz-Acosta and Percussion with Greg Zuber and Jeff Kraus in New York City.
