About Jesse

Jesse Schartz is currently a DMA student and Graduate Teaching Associate for bassoon at The Ohio State University School of Music. Prior to this appointment, Jesse served as principal bassoon and woodwind quintet music director with several United States Air Force Bands at home and abroad. He has toured extensively in the United States, and has performed in over 20 countries throughout Europe and the Middle East. Jesse has also performed frequently as an associate musician on bassoon and contrabassoon with many orchestral ensembles, most recently with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Musical Theatre, Virginia Arts Festival, and the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony. As a teacher, he works with young musicians as an active clinician and private studio instructor. Jesse received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Arkansas, and his Master of Music degree from The Ohio State University. He has studied bassoon with Richard Ramey, Robert Mottl, and Karen Pierson.
