About Joe

Joe began his drum studies at age twelve with John Mariano in Enfield, Connecticut. While in high school, Joe studied percussion with Gene Bozzi (timpanist with The Hartford Symphony Orchestra) at Julius Hartt School of Music and drum set with Art Perretta at The Hartford Conservatory of Music. While attending college at The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, he studied drum set with Jack Mouse and Thurman Barker, Jazz Studies with pianist Willie Pickens and mallet percussion with James Dutton.

As a jazz drummer, Joe has performed with Bunky Green, Clark Terry, Charlie Raush, Jon Faddis, Dick Oates, Steve Turre, Al Morgan, Bob Hope, The Smothers Brothers, and The San Antonio Symphony. He has been featured at jazz festivals throughout the country and in Europe and has performed at Texas Music Educators Association and International Jazz Educators Association conventions.

Joe has been a drumline instructor for bands that have won state and national marching band championships. He was also Percussion Director for the Sampoerna Marching Band in Surabaya Indonesia, which performed in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade.

With over thirty years of teaching experience, Joe currently lives in Houston and stays busy as a freelance drummer and percussion teacher.
