Joshua Blumenthal’s performance experience spans through a myriad of genres including solo recital, chamber, and orchestral playing. Currently, Joshua is a doctoral candidate under the tutelage of Gregory Miller at the University of Maryland and involved with the Graduate Fellowship Woodwind Quintet. This quintet is one of the flagship ensembles at the UMD School of Music and is dedicated to outreach education and adventurous, engaging programming.
This past summer, Joshua was a fellow at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo Japan, being mentored by faculty members from the Berlin, Vienna Philharmonics as well as principals from top orchestras in the United States. In previous summers, he participated as a fellow in the Chautauqua Music festival, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Hot Springs Music Festival. Joshua has held orchestral positions in the New England Philharmonic, the Massachusetts Symphony and New England Conservatory Philharmonia. His extensive chamber music experience has lead him to performances at MoMA in New York, a workshop with Composer Joan Tower, and participation in the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. He also was a finalist in the Dorothy Frazelle mock audition competition at the 2009 International Horn Symposium. Joshua holds a BM in performance from Boston University studying with Eric Ruske and a MM from New England Conservatory studying with Richard ‘Gus’ Sebring.
