About Justine Popik

Justine, an oboist from Westminster, MA, comes from a musical family and began studying the oboe at age 7. She was active in several youth ensembles in the Boston area throughout high school, including Worcester Youth Concert Orchestra, Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble, and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. She continued her studies at Ithaca College, where she received her Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, studying under Paige Morgan. As part of her undergraduate education, Justine had the opportunity to perform Verdi's Requiem at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall (formerly Avery Fisher Hall) with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra and Choir. She spent six months studying abroad in 2010 in Vienna, Austria, where she immersed herself in the rich musical atmosphere in which the city is known.

Justine earned her Master's degree in Classical Oboe Performance, studying under Robert Botti. Justine spent two summers at the Hot Springs Music Festival and another at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, studying under Joseph Salvalaggio. Justine has performed with a variety of orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout her career, including the S.E.M. Ensemble, Bronx Opera Company, Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Orchesterverein, and the Richmond County Orchestra, and was a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition in 2012. Throughout her career, Justine has performed under the baton of Maestros Kurt Masur, Peter Bay, and Carl St. Clair.

In her free time, Justine enjoys running and finding the perfect cup of coffee.
