About Kareem A

Guitar, Ukelele, Banjo, Bass, Mandolin
Kareem began playing the guitar at the age of 15. He was influenced by guitar greats, such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix and Al DiMeola.  To achieve the virtuosic heights of his heroes, he practiced up to 10 hours a day!  At the age of 19 he attended Five Towns College of Music in Long Island, New York.  At Five Townes College of Music, he learned composition and song writing skills as well as perfecting his guitar technique.  He became immersed in classical and jazz music, combining these influences in his personal compositions.
Kareem has the unique ability to compose music in almost any genre of music.  Primarily influenced on progressive rock, he can also write and perform in Blues, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Classical, Country and World Music.  These array of influences can be heard on his 2010 self-released album, Tales of Power. His song "Color's of a Dream" was featured and received a positive review in the March 2008, Guitar Player Magazine! He also composed music for Alvin Ailey dance recitals.  When we asked Kareem about his composition skills, he further elaborated.  " I like to play a game, where I pick a topic.  It could be anything like the name of an animal, a chord, or even a single note.  Then try to develop that into a composition".
Another facet of Kareem's ability as a musician is that he played most of the instruments on his album Tales of Power.  His skills are not just limited to the guitar, Kareem is also adept at playing and teaching Bass, Ukulele, Mandolin and the Banjo.  Kareem is currently living in Norther Virginia and has been teaching, writing and performing music for over 20 years.
