About Katarina Lalinksa

I have been teaching piano and music theory since 1987 in music schools and in private homes. I have an experience working with students from age 4 to 68 as well as with students that have learning disabilities.
I began playing the piano when I was six years old in former Czechoslovakia. I studied classical piano as my major at the State Conservatory for six years where I performed in recitals and competitions in dual piano or as an accompanist. I was trained in Russian piano technique by Professor Ivan Miller, who studied piano in  Leningrad /St. Petersburg in former Soviet Union.
During my university studies I performed with a chamber vocal-instrumental music ensemble Camerata Comeniana. I joined university students in choirs that performed in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine.
I hold a Bachelor and Magister degree in Musicology and Music Education from Comenius University in Slovakia.
When I moved to the U.S. in 1993 I volunteered as an accompanist for foreign students in singing performances. I continue to give private individual lessons in my home studio in Westmont and in students’ homes in surrounding neighborhoods.
I am a Steinway Teacher and I continue training through piano workshops. I emphasize classical music teaching piano methods like Alfred, Faber, Hal Leonard and Bastien. My students can also learn their favorite folk, movie and pop songs and I provide simple arrangements if needed. I encourage students to perform also their own compositions at our recitals that we hold twice a year.
My goal is to instill an appreciation and enjoyment of music in every student. I am easy- going, patient and motivating - rewarding younger students with stickers, stamps and prices. I like to share my love for music and watching students’ progress in learning to play piano. Seeing their smiles is the best reward for my teaching efforts.
