About Katherine

I’m a graduate of East Tennessee State University where I majored in Music Education.  I grew up in Las Vegas and attended Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts for High School. I’m a flute student of Bonnie Buhler-Tanouye and Rebecca Paluzzi. I’ve also studied with Laurel Ann Maurer from Connecticut and Toshio Takahashi from Japan.  I am trained in the Suzuki method, having received my Book 1 certificate in 2016 and will receive my Book 2 certificate in the summer of 2019. I’m a regular performer with the Henderson Symphony Orchestra where I play flute and piccolo. I also perform in the Sirocco Flute Choir, Las Vegas Flute Choir and the College of Southern Nevada Community Band where I play flute, piccolo, alto flute and bass flute.

My teaching background in the Suzuki method, I focus on nurturing my students in a positive environment as a teacher and a mentor. My goal is to help inspire and encourage my students to reach their potential as a flute player. I believe in taking the time to understand what the student needs to develop, whether it is their tone, phrasing, musicianship, musicality, technique, etc.

As an educator, I believe that the best approach for instilling a good practice routine at home is to reinforce the concepts learned from each lesson and modifying them for each student’s needs. Through demonstration of new repertoire and skills, it is my belief and hope that my students will be motivated and inspired to take their playing to new heights.
