Kathi just recently retired from teaching full time PreK through 5th grade general music at McKinney Christian Academy, in McKinney, Texas. During her time at McKinney Christian, Kathi also founded and directed the MCA Honor Choir, made up of 3rd through 5th graders, admitted by audition. The choir has consistently earned Superior ratings at music festival under Kathi’s direction. She also taught private piano lessons through MCA at the school. Kathi’s Honor Choir performed for several years at the McKinney Chamber of Commerce 9/11 Day of Remembrance. They also performed at the Allen Americans hockey games. These were in addition to regular performances at ACSI Music Festival, school programs and ball games and at this past year’s annual dinner and auction.
In addition to Kathi’s time at McKinney Christian, she has also had a home studio for private piano and voice lessons. Kathi began teaching private piano as a senior in high school at the urging of her own private teacher and continued to teach privately while a music major in college. Kathi has also been the choir director for both youth choir and adult choir at her church while living in Kansas.
Kathi began her own piano studies during her 8th grade year of school and has a heart for later beginners who love music but may not have had the opportunity to take lessons at a younger age. She loves starting beginners of all ages, including adult beginners.
Kathi uses Faber Piano Adventures books and “fun books” of special interest to each piano student. She also has had experience with Bastien Piano Basics as well as other teaching methods.
