About Kathryn

Kathryn McDaniel Crane is an experienced piano and organ instructor with Music and Art's Lesson Studio. She has been both a private and public music instructor for over 15 years. During her lifelong piano and performance career she has studied piano with the likes of Evelyn Mitchell and William Schatzkamer. She has competed in numerous solo piano competitions, and holds a Missouri K-12 Lifetime Education Certificate with a focus in Music Education, Orchestral and Instrumental Conducting, and all woodwind instruments.
Kathryn McDaniel Crane is currently the Organist for St. Mark's United Methodist Church, and accompanies both instrumentalists and vocalists. Futhermore, Kathryn has played piano for numerous musical theatre shows throughout the St. Louis area.
Kathryn is also an adjudicator in both Piano Events and Composition for the Mid America Music Association (MAMA), National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), Saint Louis Area Music Teachers Association, and is also affiliated with the National Music Teachers Association (NMTA). She was also a member of the Alfred publishers Test Market, testing Alfred's Premiere Piano Course method book series as an educator. Along with an extensive background in music education and adjudication, Kathryn has also recorded solo piano music at KWMU-St. Louis.
By far, Kathryn's favorite part of music education is seeing her students succeed and progress in their skill sets. Her primary focus is making sure students are using proper technique, and are able to internally hear and understand the interval relationships between notes. She strives to make sure her students are able to apply proper form and technique to the style of music they are most interested in. With her solo/ensemble students, Kathryn measures their progress and performances directly from the National Federation Standards, as to assure they are as prepared for competition as possible. Furthermore, Kathryn has a heavy focus in assuring her students fully understand the concepts of rythym.
