About Kay Johnson

Ever since she could reach the piano keys when she was 3, Miss Kay Johnson has been playing musical instruments. Being surrounded by music educator and mother, Pamela Johnson, since birth contributed to her growth in love and passion for the art.
Miss Kay started learning clarinet in 3rd grade and saxophone in 6th grade, but primarily focused on clarinet. She was able to participate in the band program from 4th-12th grade in the Downingtown Area School District, including marching band, pit orchestra for the musicals, and full orchestra in high school. She was the drum major (student leader) of the marching band for two years.

Some highlights in her high school music career included: performing in the Tournament of Roses parade, Chester County Youth Orchestra, PMEA district and region bands, and more.

Proud alumni of West Chester University of PA, Miss Kay graduated Magna cum Laude in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education - Instrumental. In college, Miss Kay studied with Dr. Karen Dannessa for 4 years and participated in clarinet choir ensemble, wind symphony, and marching band.

In the summer of 2017, she was part of the staff for the Vivace Marching Band workshops for high school students at West Chester University.

Miss Kay is a substitute music teacher now during the day, but looks forward to the individual time with students at private lessons. She enjoys sharing the joys of music in a more personable and fun-loving environment. Currently, Miss Kay teaches clarinet and saxophone lessons on Monday nights.
