Viola, Violin, Cello
Kelly Scott Burgess is a veteran string educator with nearly three decades of teaching experience on Violin, Viola Cello and Bass. A native of Washington D.C and 40 year resident of Prince George's County, Mr. Burgess started his musical training in Prince George's County Public Schools. He graduated in 1997 from the University of Maryland at College Park with a B.A. in Music Education. Mr. Burgess devoted nearly twenty years as an Orchestra and Band director to teaching youth in PGCPS to value of the wonderful language of music.
As a performer, Mr. Burgess has had the honor of performing under the direction Darrin Atwater, the conductor of the the Soulful Symphony. He has performed with Aretha Franklin, Stanley Cowell, Stanley Turrertine and other notable musical greats. He has experience as a recording studio musician, helping to lay the string work on several Christian and mainstream project for Great Commision Church and Steel Pulse. He is the one of the founding members of the Kinara String Quartet, developed in partnership with the Levine School of Music.
Mr. Burgess' music philosophy is that music is like a garden and an bridge. A garden in that the hard word at the beginning yields satisfying fruit in later seasons. It's a bridge in that it connects diverse members of society through a common, communal language.
