"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." - Arthur O'Shaugnessy (and Willy Wonka)
Hi! My name is Kenny Prochazka, and I am an Associate at the Wilmington Music & Arts. Born into a Navy family, I spent much of my youth in New Hampshire, Italy, and the Philippines, making a home in Virginia for over 20 years until recently moving to North Carolina.
In the 6th grade I began playing the clarinet (although I really wanted to play the saxophone) and I took my first private lessons at the Music & Arts in Woodbridge, VA, starting around 1990. At the end of the first year, I volunteered to play the bass clarinet (if you squint, it sort of looks like a saxophone), and was instantly hooked. Finally, between middle and high school, after three years of begging and pleading, I got my chance to play the saxophone. From there, it was all downhill into the land of carrying 5 different types of reeds around with me.
In my musical career, I have been fortunate enough to play with: Concert, Marching, Jazz and Pep bands at two different high schools and in college; the All-Virginia Band in 1996; the Orange(VA) Community Band in 1997; and the Tidewater Winds concert band from 1996-1999. These performances took me from the mountains of Virginia to the Oceanfront, from Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey to Walt Disney World in Florida, and from Toronto, Canada to the Prince's Palace in Monaco.
I have also played guitar and saxophone in several local rock bands, including Jet Noise, GPS, The Jimmies and Upside. In 2012, we put together an employee (and teacher) band from within the Chesapeake Music & Arts family, calling ourselves Ruckus in the Papers. Playing an eclectic mix of acoustic soul, blues, rock, funk and hip-hop, we have appeared all over Hampton Roads, from private parties with state political figures to the men's clothing section of a local department store.
I began my Music & Arts career in the fall of 2007, jumping into the middle of a very busy school rental season, and I could not be happier to have found such a great home and outlet for sharing my love of music.
Music & Arts is here to help you with whatever musical needs you may have: Guitar teachers, Piano teachers, Violin teachers, Voice teachers, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Viola, Cello, Bass, Drumset, Percussion, Electric Bass, Trumpet, French Horn and Trombone teachers, to name quite a few, instruments from handmade Eastman Guitars to Yamaha Digital Pianos and Buffet Clarinets, accessories, rentals and sheet music galore!
