About Shane Rathburn
Since making his orchestral solo debut in 2011, Shane has performed as a soloist with the University of Hartford Wind Ensemble, University of North Carolina School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, Toe River Chamber Orchestra, Mountain Heritage Symphonic Band, and the Eastern Music Festival Symphony Orchestra. Shane's recent performance of Jacque Ibert’s Concertino da Camera with Maestro Gerard Schwarz and the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra was featured on National Public Radio (NPR).
In addition to his solo appearances, Shane has been successful in a variety of competitions, performing as a finalist in the 2014 North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition, placing 3rd in the 2012 NASA Quartet Competition with the Aidai Saxophone Quartet, winning the UNCSA and University of Hartford Concerto Competitions, and taking 1st prize in the Third Annual Rosen-Schaffel Competition.
A native of Burnsville, North Carolina, Shane holds degrees from The University of Hartford, Indiana University, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied with Professor Carrie Koffman, Dr. Otis Murphy, Professor Taimur Sullivan, respectively.
