About Dr. Marcia Hanjian
Dr. Hanjian holds B.M. and M.M. degrees in Viola Performance from Boston University, where she studied with Walter Trampler, and the D.M.A. degree from Rutgers University where she was a student of Michael Tree of the Guarneri Quartet. She served as Principal Viola of the Greater Trenton (NJ) Symphony for 13 years as well as Principal Viola for opera and chamber/choral orchestras in Northern and Central New Jersey. She was also a member of the Springfield (MA) Symphony Orchestra for 18 years, section violist of the Harvard (MA) Chamber Orchestra, and has substituted with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Hanjian has extensive teaching experience as a viola and violin instructor including preliminary to advanced levels. She is Suzuki Institute Certified, has directed string chamber orchestras at music schools in Massachusetts, the Hartford Camerata Conservatory, and New Jersey. Her advanced viola students have achieved high rankings in both the Regional and All-State Orchestral auditions. She has performed as concerto soloist with the Greater Trenton Symphony and in solo recital and chamber music venues. Dr. Hanjian has toured with various orchestras as Assistant Principal violist to Prague, Lisbon, the Azores Islands, London, and Salzburg.
