About Mary Vanderslice

Piano is my passion, so showing my love of the piano as well as spreading the joy it can bring, is paramount to my teaching. My musical life to a large part, includes learning, performing, teaching, practicing, attending recitals, and concerts. Outside of piano, I've been married for over thirty two years, and am the mother of two children. When my children were old enough to learn the piano, I found a piano teacher for them, but they weren't happy, so I decided to start teaching them. They made great progress and were so happy, that they started telling their friends about me, and that's how my piano teaching career got started. Everybody thought I would be in music right after high school, but I decided instead to go into business and paralegal careers. I'm really glad I gradually ended up back in music. I love bringing the joy of learning the piano to others, so this is the career I love!

When I started teaching, I also started taking lessons for myself from master teachers, learning how to play, perform, and teach. I  graduated Cum laude in May, 2013, with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Metropolitan State University of Denver.  I've been teaching out of my home studio, as well as traveling to student homes to teach since 2003. I'm an active performer, having been a winner and performer in competitions, Master Classes, Recitals, as well as accompanying choirs and soloists. I'm a member of Aurora Music Teachers Association, (Co-chair of Premier Performances, Co-chair of Four Forms Festival), Colorado State Music Teachers Association, and Music Teachers National Association. Schmitt Music named me a Steinway Top Teacher for 2016 and 2017.  My hobbies include running, golf, hiking and travel.
