About Me

Melanie Julien holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the Ohio State University and has been teaching music for almost thirty years.  She has served as band director at several schools including Bishop Ready High School (whom she took to their first-ever appearance at State Marching Band Finals); Madison Plains Middle School; and Madison Christian School, at which she taught grades 5-12 and started the school’s marching band program, which grew to 90 members during her time.  She has been teaching private lessons for clarinet and saxophone through Colonial Music / Music & Arts since 1996.

During her private teaching career, Melanie has started beginners on their new instruments, prepared students for OMEA Solo & Ensemble competitions and seating auditions, and taken aspiring music majors through the college audition process.  She believes in working at the student’s pace to ensure a solid grasp of fundamentals, including tone production and basic musicianship, and she also teaches her students to learn how to evaluate their own playing.  She is also experienced in equipment selection for growing musicians.

Melanie is married with three children.  Her hobbies include camping, raising horses, and spending time with her family.
