About Melissa

Currently working on the last semester of her Master's degree in education and student teaching in the Wentzville school district, Melissa holds a bachelor's degree in instrumental music with an emphasis on French horn. During her time at Truman State University, she played first chair horn in Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra - ensembles that have performed at the Missouri Music Educator's Association's annual conference in Lake of the Ozarks and at the College Band Director's National Association's symposium. Other ensembles that she has performed with include the Truman State Brass Choir and the Southeast Iowan Symphony. In addition to studying and playing horn, she also studied trumpet performance during her graduate years at Truman State.

Melissa has taught lessons since 2011, and has had a small studio of students ranging from age 13 - 18. Lesson emphasis is different for each student based on their own personal goals. Students can expect to work on scales, technical excercises focused on improving dexterity, tone studies to improve sound quality, theory and aural skills, and band and orchestral excerpts. Students may also bring in district audition music or district/state solo materials, and any music from school band that they need more assistance with.

Melissa's own personal philosophy on music education is that each person has the ability to be successful in their own way. Students need to be able to pursue their own interests and given the freedom to be creative and expressive in their own right. Using instrumental performance as a vehicle, students will be able to be creative, sensitive, and expressive in music and form something truly beautiful and unique.
