About Mick

Mick Lewander is a top teacher and performer in the Greater Boston area. He's a former faculty member of Berklee College of Music and has been teaching private lessons at Music and Arts since 2009 and in the extension program in the Wellesley Public Schools since 1995. He has performed extensively both locally and internationally.

Mick has toured South America and Mexico with the show "Ain't Misbehavin'" and has performed in many other professional productions ranging from The Who's "Tommy" to "Chicago". He can be heard on  CD recordings by singers Valerie Sneade (Let Me Be Strong), and John O'Neill ('So Kaye: The Songs of Danny Kaye). Mick has performed with nationally known artists including Livingston Taylor, Sid Caesar, and JoAnne Worley.
Mick enjoys teaching students of all levels, beginners, through advanced. He finds it equally satisfying to witness a beginner discover their talents for the first time, as well as to coach more advanced students in the refinements of their skills. His many years of teaching enables him to tailor lessons to each student's individual musical tastes and learning styles.
He strives to make the lessons both fun and informative. He uses a variety of method books depending on the student's preferences and level. Mick  uses recordings to help students apply their skills as well as assist those who learn better by ear and wish to strengthen their music reading skills.
Lessons can range anywhere from a crash course in the basics to a solid technical command of drumming in all styles. Whatever a student's interest level is, whether it be strictly as a hobby, coaching for school music programs or that of an aspiring professional, all a student needs to bring to his/her first lesson is a desire to learn and Mick will find  a way to make it happen for you!
