About Mike

         Mr. Chen graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Music, another B.A. in History, and a Master’s in Teaching.  While at the UW, he participated in many ensembles including the University Symphony (violin), Wind Ensemble (euphonium), Symphonic Band (euphonium), Concert Band (baritone horn/euphonium, trombone, and tuba), Baroque Ensemble (flute), Jazz Band II (trombone), and the University Singers (voice).

         His primary instruments include the flute, violin, viola, and baritone horn/euphonium.  He is also proficient on the cello, trombone, and tuba.  He also plays a plethora of other instruments, at a middle school level, including: clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, string bass, and piano.

         He’s taught band and/or orchestra for several schools and organizations, including: Tacoma Baptist Schools, Seattle Christian Schools, Eastside Enrichment at Maplewood Heights Elementary, Rainier Christian Schools, the Renton Youth Symphony, and the West Seattle Community Orchestras. 

In the last few years, he’s played with Christ’s Church Orchestra in Federal Way (flute, trombone, baritone, violin, and viola) and trombone with Jazz Night School in Seattle, as well as violin with the West Seattle Community Orchestra Symphony.
