About Minta White
Minta White is an award-winning flutist, chamber musician, and improvisor. Her "amazing range of flute usage" crosses many genres, including classical music, jazz, free music, Chinese traditional folk music, Latin American music and more. She graduated from Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA, in 2012 where she earned a Master of Music degree in Modern American Music Performance. At Longy, she studied classical flute with Marco Granados and jazz flute with Hiro Honshuku and Peter Cassino. She graduated magna cum laude from the Hartt School of Music, where she studied with John Wion, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. She has also studied with Dr. John Barcellona, flutist/composer Gary Schocker, and jazz flutist Ali Ryerson. She has won several awards both for flute and piano performances, most recently winning the Honors Competition at Longy School of Music in 2012. She has performed with many well known improvisors, including Latin Grammy winner Alex Brown, pianist for Paquito D’Rivera’s band, Joe Morris (guitar) and Stephen Haynes (trumpet). Minta is an ardent proponent of contemporary classical music and has premiered works by several living composers, including Josh Hummel’s “Wu-Wo” for flute and piano and Arthur Hernandez’s “Three Medidations for Flute and Guitar”. She has performed several solo concerts with the professional classical ensemble Duo Del Sur, and has been a frequent substitute for Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra. Minta has organized and performed in many concerts for the Women Composers Festival of Hartford, serving as Assistant Director in 2009. She has also served as Music Director of the Riverwood Poetry Series. Currently, Minta performs in collaboration with the Alturas Duo. She also performs as a member of the free music collective Carte Noire with pianist Tim Peck, and in the duo Mintoso with Carlos Boltes (viola, charango). In addition to private lessons, Minta teaches at The Ethel Walker School and Music and Arts in West Hartford.
