About Me

Nancy Wilson is a native of Atlanta and received her Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia State University. She has studied flute with Warren Little, Marion Valasek, Kareen Britt, Amy Porter, Christina Smith, Tadeu Coelho, and Carl Hall. Since 1971, she has maintained an active private studio teaching all levels of flutist from 4 years old to retirement age. She has taught flute at Music and Arts, Snellville location, since it first opened for business. Formally a middle school band director, she has had experience working, planning, and assessing exceptionally large programs as well as working with flute sectionals for marching band, concerts, and masterclasses. Nancy loves working with flute choirs and giving individual private instruction. She is actively supportive and involved with the local flute community and its educational advancement as well as continuing her own personal music education.

Nancy continues her studies by attending the National Flute Association Convention, the Florida Flute Convention and the Mid-South Flute Festival which offers many avenues of education. She participates yearly in local and national flute masterclasses and workshops. With the Atlanta Flute Club, she has been actively involved on the board since its beginnings in 1998. This organization helps to educate our local flute community. The annual AFC Flute Fair brings national and international artists to the Atlanta area to give concerts and masterclasses. Mrs. Wilson’s performance experience includes the Emory University Wind Ensemble, the Atlanta Community Orchestra, Georgia Perimeter College Wind Ensemble, the Dekalb College Wind Ensemble, the Dekalb Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Flute Orchestra, the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir, the Embry Trio, Papageno Flute Quartet as well as playing at many metro Atlanta area churches, event venues and local Musical Theaters. She was a founder and assistant conductor of The Atlanta Metro Youth Flute Choir for 20 years. This choir continues to give our talented Atlanta area high school flutist great playing opportunities. Nancy performs with the Peachtree Symphonic Winds (section leader), the Flute Choir of Atlanta and the Atlanta Flute Ensemble. She is past president, past vice president and immediate past membership coordinator of the Atlanta Flute Club. Mrs. Wilson serves on the Atlanta Flute Club board as founder/coordinator of the annual Flute Choir Extravaganza. She is a member of the National Flute Association, Mid-South Flute Society, and the Florida Flute Association.
